Joe is a Partner in Wiggin and Dana’s Corporate Department, as well as a Partner of wiggin(x), who counsels entrepreneurs on both sides of the founder spectrum — those building and scaling high-growth companies, and those acquiring and growing established, cash-flowing businesses.
On the acquisition entrepreneur side, Joe works hands-on with search fund entrepreneurs, independent sponsors, and self-funded acquirers across the full Entrepreneurship-Through-Acquisition (ETA) lifecycle — from search-stage capital and LOI through closing, post-close governance, and eventual exit. On the emerging company side, he advises founders and early-stage operators on entity formation, equity arrangements, priced and convertible financings, and the strategic transactions that fuel growth. Clients describe him as a dealmaking “Swiss Army knife” for the way he integrates M&A, capital raising, fund and SPV formation, and tax-driven structuring into a single, commercially pragmatic engagement.
Before returning to private practice, Joe spent years in-house at a private equity firm managing approximately $3 billion in assets — a principal’s-seat perspective that informs how he counsels clients on structuring, investor alignment, and getting deals closed. Joe was named an Emerging Leader by The M&A Advisor™, an honor recognizing top M&A professionals under 40 who are reshaping the future of the industry through innovation, impact, and leadership.
Joe is a recognized thought leader in the ETA community and the lead drafter of PACT (Partnership Acquisition Commonsense Terms) — often called the “SAFE for ETA” — which has become a market baseline for aligning search fund entrepreneurs and investors in SBA-backed transactions (www.ETAPACT.com). He regularly speaks at leading business schools and advises several of the most prominent accelerator programs in the space.
In addition to lawyering, Joe enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters at their cottage on Long Island’s East End. He is a die-hard Knicks, Giants, and Notre Dame fan.
